BlueJuice

I have recently been stuck in a little rut when in comes to what bands and tracks I choose to listen too. I find myself listening to the same three CD’s in my sound system and the same old play list on my i-pod. Be it because I am too lazy to press the ‘open’ button on the player or because no current bands have done anything to really grab my attention, I haven’t quite figured out. Whatever the cause of my music melancholy, the musical gods have taken pity on me chucked a surprising treat my way.

Last week I saw a gig at Ginglik in Shepherds Bush that had me excited about a band again.  I went with an Australian friend who had been raving on about this band from Sydney called Bluejuice (the name did have me a tad sceptical at first). However, as soon as these Ausie Rockers took to the stage, their energy was insane from the get go.  Combining amazing vocals with a synth, keyboard and drums these boys had the recipe for a vibrant and exhilarating performance. And that’s exactly what they delivered.

Their first single from back in 2007 sent the crowd, mainly Australians, into frenzy as the two singers threw themselves across the intimate (small) stage, jumped on the crowd (me!) and knocked back whiskeys. They also whacked out their newer tracks including  ‘I aint telling the truth’ and the album titled song ‘Head of the Hawk’,

They have been described as “too straight for funk, too groovy for indie rock and too sweaty for pop” – exactly what I needed! This is definitely a band I will see again and press the ‘open’ button for.bluejuice
